Serve Arcanum 2017

As we transition to 2017, Arcanum High School looks forward to celebrating our fifth annual Serve Arcanum on Friday, May 5 from 8:30 to 11:30 am. The students of Arcanum High School (assisted by teachers and community members) will go out into the community and serve our citizens through a variety of service projects. This is the fifth year for this outstanding project that helps the citizens of our community. We are soliciting opportunities for our students to assist you, your organization, or your business, with projects that we could help you complete. A few examples of projects that we would be welcome to complete would be lawn care, painting, cleaning, and organization. You provide the job and supplies and we will provide the manpower.

If you are interested in us helping you, please fill out the request form on the attached brochure and mail it to the high school or email High School Principal Jason Stephan at jason_stephan@darke.k12.oh.us.

Over the last four years, Arcanum High School students have completed over 170 different projects to help the people of our school district. Please let us help out again this year to make our town an even better place!

NHS Trick or Treat Canned Food Drive

Next week is our annual food drive sponsored by the Arcanum National Honor Society at AHS! This year we are fortunate to have the middle school teaming up with us to help more people in Arcanum. This year our goal is to collect 5000 items between the MS and HS. The building that brings in the most items will get to throw a pie at their principal! During the school week, students are encouraged to bring in non-perishable items to school.
Friday at the final home football game of the year, fans can bring money to donate or a canned food item and get one dollar off admission to the game!
On Sunday during Trick or Treat, AHS students will be canvassing the community to collect items donated by the Arcanum community. If you would like to help but will not be home during the Trick or Treat event, please leave your items on your front porch or drop them off at the high school. Please help us feed those in need in Arcanum!

Please share this information with our Arcanum community so that we can make a tremendous difference to citizens!

District Seeks Input Regarding Possible Addition of a School Resource Officer

Over the last year, the Arcanum-Butler Local School District Board of Education and Administration have been researching and discussing the possibility of adding a full-time School Resource Officer or SRO. The discussion began at the county level as a potential way to help address the increased drug activity in the county and schools, assist districts in prevention/education of youth-related social and behavioral issues, and provide an additional layer of security in keeping our students and staff safe. Both District and Village representatives attended the same county meetings and upon hearing about the possibility on a county-wide level, suggested a partnership between the District and the Village of Arcanum as a better option.  This option could possibly provide a full-time SRO and the partnership itself could further strengthen the community/school relationship.

Construction Update: 4/15/16

Additional panels will soon be delivered and craned for installation above those recently torn off areas. Tear off will next take place on the back side of the elementary portion of the building.

The masons continue tearing off block on the back of the building around the high school gymnasium and have started installation of brick on that area. Additionally, they have completed installation of brick just outside of the band/music room area.

Help with After-Prom

Arcanum High School will be celebrating our prom and after-prom festivities on April 30, 2016. After Prom is a very special fun-filled, alcohol-free, and drug-free event that follows Prom. After Prom is open to ALL Juniors/ Seniors and their invited guests. A junior or senior need not attend Prom to go to After Prom. This year our after-prom will be at Jumpy's in Troy, Ohio. Jumpy's provides laser tag, inflatables, foam ball zone, and an arcade to entertain students. We also provide unlimited pizza, drinks, and snacks for students who attend. We are seeking donations to help defray the cost of after-prom to ensure that all students who want to attend are able to attend. If you, your business, or your local organization would like to donate to after-prom you can contact High School Principal Jason Stephan at jason_stephan@darke.k12.oh.us or 937-692-5174. Prom night is one of the most exciting, but potentially dangerous nights of our high school students' lives. TOGETHER we can continue to provide a SAFE and FUN alternative for our students. THANK YOU for making a difference and your continued support of Arcanum High School.
